The girls had a blast working on earning their painting badge! We went through a short demonstration on different types of paint that artists use, styles of paint brushes, material that can be painted on and talked about a few famous artists. The Girl Scouts then rotated through three different stations.
Watercolor Station
Paint Your Mood
The girls had a conversation about what an emotion is. We talked about what the word emotion means and the girls gave examples of what kind of emotions someone might experience on a day-to-day basis. We then talked about color and how do certain colors make us feel. We also try to answer why certain colors might make us feel that way. We also talked about different kinds of lines (straight, jagged, squiggly, zig-zag, etc.) and how this could be related to emotions. The girls took a piece of paper and wrote their name on the front. The girls then thought about how they were feeling and used a color(s) to represent it.
Painting with Natural Materials
We had a conversation with the girls about what objects in nature could we use to paint with. The girls looked at the different natural items that were brought in and we talked about the shape, color and texture of the items. The girls took a sheet of paper and were able to interact with the various natural materials and paint a picture using the materials. They had paint available to dip the natural objects in and experimented with what kind of shape they could create on the paper.
